WHO WE ARE: Stage Troupers is a group of actors ranging from elementary through high school age boys and girls who perform one act musicals and plays throughout the Washington County area. Director STAGES Artistic/Education Director Donald Cleland, choreographer Linda Anderson and musical director Jacob Mott along with production coordinator Cindy Wilkins produce the delightful productions for the purpose of promoting STAGES and spreading positive and healthy messages within out community through entertaining performances.
Our first production was a wonderful musical entitled, ARF!. The 30-minute musical was performed at local fairs, markets, civic gatherings and elementary schools. They were well received and it is the plan of STAGES to continue to offer this experience to young actors and local audiences.
THIS SEASON’S PRODUCTIOIN: The mini-musical we plan on producing this season is A KID’S LIFE. It is the story of a group of youngsters who find that their modern technical gadgets are no longer working and this puts them in the panic mode. Suddenly some kids from the past appear and through song and dance teach the lesson that one can have fun without all the modern electronics.
BENEFITS OF BEING A STAGE TROUPER:
- Learn acting and musical theatre techniques with personal instruction.
- Get to perform for a wide variety of audiences.
- As a performer you will experience a range of performing venues, which will help you learn to adjust to an assortment of locations and space.
- Learning the skill of meeting and engaging with new people whether they be patrons or audience members as an ambassador for STAGES as well as young people in theatre.
- Be a part of a wonderful group of actors. Stage Troupers become a very close-knit group who truly support each other.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE CAST AND FAMILIES: Having the honor of being chosen as a cast member of Stage Troupers carries with it a number of responsibilities not only for the actors, but parents as well. They are:
- Be committed to Stage Troupers through the end of 2011.
- We ask for a participation fee of $75.00 for each cast member. This will be used for needed costumes and other production costs. The fee is tax deductible.
- Attend all rehearsals unless prior arrangements have been made.
- Be available for most of the summer performances. We realize that summer is a busy time with vacations and such, therefore the productions are constructed in away where we can adjust lines and songs when someone is absent, however the participants must be willing to attend the majority of the summer performances. Even though we can deal without one or two cast members at a performance, it does put more stress on the remaining actors and they truly miss not having the entire cast.
- Willing to miss a minimum of 5 days of school to attend the elementary performances. If we schedule more than 5 days, then we can adjust for performers who cannot attend.
- Not only do Stage Troupers act as performers, they also are required to be wonderful ambassadors for STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy. Therefore, we expect each and every Stage Trouper to interact with the public in a positive and friendly manner. Training will be given to acquire this skill.
- Agree to participate in the Major Fall Fundraising Gala
- Stage Troupers will participate in at least one Community Service project during their acting season.
- We ask the parents help with
- Costumes
- Transportation
- Chaperoning
- Cheerleading
- Attending as many performances as you can
- Spreading the word about the performances
IN CONCLUSION: Being a member of Stage Troupers is honor. The cast members get to spread wonderful entertaining messages all over Washington County. They not only will be representing the cast, but STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy, their families, young people and of course themselves. There is a lot of work and a lot is expected of the cast, but they will find that not only is it a wonderful experience, skills will be learned that can be used in their lives forever.
