Shutter Up 1

A beginning photography class
We at STAGES have been considering a photography class for several years. Finally, with help from a generous grant from The Regional Arts & Culture Council plus some donations, we were able to put together the resources to present the class. Since this was a beginning photography class, we started with the basics of camera handling; what the knobs, buttons, and dials do; and a brief history of photography and photographic equipment. Part of the class also involved going on a field trip to try out what we have learned. These next pages are a visual display of our efforts.

An introduction from Frank

Teaching this class was great fun. As an avid photographer since I was a young boy, it is exciting for me to pass on some of my knowledge and experiences to others. Who knows, the next Ansel Adams may have been in the class! As part of our classwork, each student selected their two favorite photos from the class and field trip. We then combined those images with a portrait taken by other students and a brief video explaining why they selected the images. Since I was not only the teacher, but part of the class, I did the assignment also.
